Le SonArt, a musical company :
In 2003, David Chevallier set up his own company in order to explore new ways and imagine new forms of expression, new kinds of productions through weaving new links of meaning between artists of diverse origins and with the aim of researching further into what may be left to be invented.
Encouraging encounters is at the hub of SonArt's artistic project: encounters between various musical styles, between music and other artistic fields, encounters between human individuals, encounters leading to re-inventing musical achievements. As jazz is living music, which escapes from borders and confinement, echoes of this freedom can and will be heard in SonArt's various projects.
In order to maintain the highest possible level of coherence and artistic relevance in his way of work, David Chevallier has chosen to work with a number of performers and ensembles of different sizes as every project requires special and complementary energies and talents. This is why, depending on the occasion, SonArt has called upon artists such as singer Elise Caron, the Ensemble Octoplus, The vocal ensemble A Sei Voci, pianist John Taylor or actor François Accard and stage director Paul Desveaux to join the original founding musicians Yves Robert, Michel Massot, Denis Charolles and Christophe Monniot.
David Chevallier is a maverick.
Refusing to be confined in a musical style, he cultivates his difference, and creates works at the intersection of universes that are a priori remote from one another. Perhaps this is due to his personal trajectory - muscian parents, a thorough training in the classical guitar, empirical discovery of jazz, improvisation and composition - or perhaps it is no more than a form of resistance.
Wether as an instrumentalist in the groups of Laurent Dehors, Patrice Caratini, John Taylor and Jean-Marie Machado, or as leader of his own projects, David Chevallier has always shown determination to be original.
Eclectism and coherence, a taste for risk-taking and sensuous pleasure : these are the key words that characterise this resolutely atypical musician.
